Neighbourhood Manchester City Centre Festival 2024 is upon us. Yes, Saturday the 5th of October is merely days away and faced with a festival that does exactly what it says on the tin, delivering 100 plus artists across 16 venues we thought we would gather the RGM team and kick around the venue splits and plot the perfect day.
Obviously, picking your selections is entirely subjective and if we’re honest, the disagreements and fallouts here were nearly the end of RGM. I even had a massive fallout with myself…. how on earth can you decide between Red Rum Club, The Royston Club and Dirty Blonde, all on at the same time ( ish)???
Still, these things are sent to try us so here we go, in no particular order, with a few clashes here and there, this is our pick of those to see (I’ve been asked to point out that in no way was this list agreed by all the RGM team!)
Lions Den has a strong showing early doors, Issy Sutcliffe opens the day at 12.30 and is followed by many people’s discovery of the year, The Slates at 1.30
Albert Hall has its headliners Red Rum Club on at 4.30 with Brooke Combe following at 6. Expect both these shows to be turning people away.
The O2 Ritz hosts also host its headliner in the afternoon when The Royston Club take to the stage at 4.15. again, likely to be oversubscribed. Anthony Szmierek wraps up the Ritz at 9.15, again, expect that to be quite busy.
Academy 1 has a doubleheader of Pale Waves and Corella, Corella going on first at 8 with Pale Waves at 9. we’d maybe have expected slightly longer set times there with just the two acts.
Academy 2 hosts Aimee Carty at 7pm in between Alex Spencer at 6 and Bellah Mae at 8 before Bradley Simpson takes to the stage at 9
Mother Marys might be the place to go for a most eclectic mix of the day, highlights definitely being Jamie Grey at 2.15, Lewis Fitzgerald at 7.30 and Leonie Biney at 4.30
Gorilla has a good late afternoon/early evening run starting with Villanelle at 6, Chappaqua Wrestling at 7 and Picture Parlour at 8.
The Bread Shed is the place to go if you want to park yourself down with a few beers for the afternoon, stay out of the rain and be served tune after tune after tune. The Sheratons open the day at 12.15, Denver County Council are on at 2.15. Dirty Blonde 4.15, Rolla 6.15 with The Guest List at 7.15 although you might want to head to Revolution on Oxford Road at that time to make sure you don’t miss The Kairos who close the day there at 8pm.
If you can’t get in Revolution to see The Kairos then all is not lost as the superb Keyside play the Deaf Institute at 8.30, again, that’s another clash that’s a real bone of contention for some of us here, but first-world problems hey?
So here you go, that’s OUR collective view (gets sacked!), we are spoilt for choice, no two perfect days will be the same, that’s why we love this day, there is so much choice… from Casino, Girl Band, Yuneki or Alex Spencer, there’s something for everyone so don’t fall out with your mates like we did, choice one each, have a great day out and support some great local venues and upcoming talent.
