In 2025, after an 18-year hiatus, Paisley four-piece The Cuts re-emerged with new music, bringing out singles “Juliette”, “Minimum Wage, Minimum Effort” and “Casual”.
Originally formed in 2006, the band describe themselves as an “blending sharp guitar hooks, infectious choruses and energetic indie rock.” – they spent time writing, recording and playing live shows across Scotland, before life took the members in different directions.
In 2026, they’ve already released single “Disgusting Disgrace” and have a full EP planned, alongside some other single releases – one of them, is their latest single “Fire with Fire”.
It starts off with this jangly guitar twang, before holding for a second and the drums taking over, which immediately drew my attention, with the vocals soon following – the instrumental is certainly very catchy, and that drew me in more.
There is a bit of teasing with very brief stops here and there, and honestly that works, as it just recaptures your attention.
The vocals are strong, the backing track a little overpowering at times over them but otherwise, it’s mastered really well and you can settle into the lyrics after a listen or two, definitely be a good one to see live or just have a little dance too, could very well be a crowd-pleaser later down the line.
It does slow down a bit just over half-way through the track, with a really catchy bass-twang, that was quite unexpected, but it certainly works, big fan of that.
The style of track certainly feels like it very 00’s indie-rock, and would look comfortable alongside your Arctic Monkeys, The Wombats and The Killers on your vinyl shelf.
The only criticism I have really is the artwork, it does feel quite basic for such a fun and energetic track, I’d quite like to see a shot of the band practicing or even just looking moody in the distance (whatever suits really!) but other than that, overall this is a very solid offering from The Cuts.
