If you are looking for an easy-listening bop to accompany your summer days, then ‘Don’t Let Me Waste It’ might be that song.
A new single from the alt-rock outfit The Dive, who are peaking from the vibrant local music scene that is Liverpool, ‘Don’t Let Me Waste It’ is a tune about making up one’s mind for a relationship, and urging the partner to reciprocate the desire.
With how the song’s upbeat intro, I did not expect it to take quite a bittersweet turn to a more poignant, minor-infused main melody in the chorus. The slightly faltering chords gives a hint of desperation with the song, combined with Jack (vocals/ guitar)’s delivery of yearn, it is an emotionally rich song against a relatively simple instrumental.
I also like how ‘steady’ the song goes, how it naturally progresses into an expansive chorus and you can hear the inspiration of 2000s indie rock coming from the old school guitar strums, tainting the track with a layer of nostalgia.
‘Don’t Let Me Waste It’ is another wonderful single to add to The Dive’s archive of intimate, reflective yet hopeful sound, just like the extensive outro with the revolving verse and you’d want it to go on and on, until someone finally reciprocates the feelings.
