Sunderland punk outfit The Futureheads played Manchester’s New Century Hall on Monday evening as part of their current UK tour which sees the band celebrate their multiple releases and give fans an opportunity to see them live again after a few years away from the scene.
The band, fronted by the charismatic and charming Barry Hyde had drawn a fairly large crowd of hardcore fans, many wearing the colours of Sunderland and waving red and white striped scarves, much to the delight of the four piece who acknowledged the dedication.
Hyde is down to earth and has a brilliant rapport with fans, making self depreciating jokes as the band play their way through the set list. The set list featured a couple of cover tracks, ‘Beeswing’ a Richard Thomas cover, and of course one of their most notable hits, Kate Bush’s ‘Hounds of Love’ which drew a brilliant audience response as the band put their own unique twist on a classic.
Watching the band this evening it is easy to see why they have such a solid fanbase. Their musicianship is second to none, and Hyde’s vocals compliment the post-punk dynamics and they are a joy to watch with their electrifying stage presence, enhanced by New Century’s highly advanced lighting system! The band do comment on the impressive architecture, noting that this venue would be worthy of an appearance in architectural digest!
The band continue their tour, a celebration of their singles now featured on their latest release ‘Decent Days and Nights: The Singles’. To purchase the album or catch them before the tour ends next week, check out the link below.
