The Heretics “Tidal Waves” – Single Review

A feel-good alternative rock tune to kick-off the sunny days of early spring, hailing from Cambridge os the four-piece outfit The Heretics with their latest single – Tidal Waves,  a laid-back single reminiscent of late 90s pop-punk.

Tidal Waves encompasses all the elements for late-90s summer rock, high energy guitars, radiant drums and infectious vocals but with a hint of grit. With such a bright topline, the track feels reassuring, free-spirited, just like it is soaring against the high waves.

The unpolished drumkicks and rebellious guitars bring authenticity, the kind that is coming from the soul. As the instrumentals build on top of each other like folds of waves, frontman Christian’s powerful voice cuts through the chaos, going against tides carving a path on its own. The production of the track itself is clean, with drums, guitars and vocals working in harmony to do the beautiful-written lyricism justice.

The build-up with the lines, ‘if you go down, go down swinging’ is badass, while Christian’s aching delivery really made it believable. Just like how the chords resolves in the chorus tinted by nostalgia, the hook ‘fueled by adrenaline’ is sung on repeat towards the end, leaving the listener imbued with hope.
