In 2025, The Kev released their track ‘Hope It Might So” which was written in 2020 when the Corona Virus had spread across the globe. Kevin McGeary, the face behind The Kev, wanted to give something back whilst people were going through the worst time possible. This song sums up what life was like back in 2020.
At the beginning of the song we are greeted with a gentle strum of a guitar and a percussion instrument, as well as vocals which come in just after the song starts. The melody of the song flows well and gives the song some character, but it is the same continuous melody throughout. This track is definitely acoustic and laid back, with a polished electric guitar coming in towards the end. It’s very much a song you’d listen to when you want to chill out and relax.
Saying that, the lyrics are quite deep and speak about death, hope, and religion. I think at the time Kevin wrote this, he put all of his thoughts into one song and hoped it would connect with people, and it did. The song actually took off in China, so he wrote Chinese lyrics as well as having the English version. The song is very catchy and meaningful, the only downside is that in places the vocals sound very rushed and don’t quite match the instrumental – the vocals sound a little out of time. The vocals also sound louder than the instrumental which does let it down a little bit.
Overall, this track is soothing and sums up a hard time in our lives. The Kev has pictured what 2020 was like perfectly and turned into a song. If you’re a fan of acoustic and chilled out track, this song is most definitely for you.
