Manchester artist The Kev is back with his newest single The Greatest British Indie Song. It’s a fun, quirky, and laid back track.
The song opens up with a gentle guitar playing over a beat with the vocals coming in around 30-40 seconds. As soon as Kevin starts singing, he talks about different types of Indie songs and the moods they portray and to be honest he isn’t wrong with saying most are ‘moody’ and talk about feelings.
This type of indie song does feel like more of a comedy track rather than an actual indie song. I think with Kevin saying ‘I really should be trying to get myself taken seriously’, is a slight sarcastic comment, as when the song gets further through the track he laughs and jokes about other things, therefore, not being so serious himself.
This track does remind me of something that Kunt and the Gang would release as it’s very comedic. I think the overall theme of this track is to not live life so dourly and enjoy it whilst you can.
But I also sense that Kevin is trying to say you can have fun with music and not just write about your mood swings. Kevin has written a great song, but unfortunately I do have to say the vocals just don’t hit as brilliantly as they should. I think maybe having a different singer on the track would have made the song.
Overall, this song is funny, humorous, and written superbly. There are just a few things that let it down. Give it a listen for yourself and see what you think!
