The Lathums are back with new single ‘Vice Versa’ – Single Review

Wigan’s iconic indie-rockers, The Lathums, have broken their release silence of over 12 months with their new single, Vice Versa.

Lulling the listener in with a simple, upbeat guitar riff, the mood of the song quickly becomes more emotional as vocalist Alex Moore doesn’t hesitate to dive into themes of belonging. The lyrics explore feelings of yearning for deeper connection and meaning in everyday life.

Compared to the verse, the chorus feels uplifting – I can already picture the crowds at their multiple summer shows singing this back to the four-piece band. It’s simple, with no big mouthful of words, yet still feels raw with emotion.

After the bridge, which repeats the song title, further drilling it into the listener’s mind, the track drops down to breathe before swelling back into the chorus. The song feels like a constant build-up of emotion, that never really seems to drop. It feels different from the typical indie-rock sound you get from bands nowadays. It pivots more towards a raw, unapologetically emotional Coldplay-esque, sound particularly with the keys placed high in the mix.

Moore, the singer-songwriter explains co-writing the track with Ian Archer allowed him to reveal his vulnerability creatively, which is reflected in the raw lyrics.

With a busy summer ahead for the band, including festival and support slots with Richard Ashcroft and The Courteeners, The Lathums aren’t wasting any time with getting back into releasing music, treating their lucky fans in 2026.
