Opened with an intimate, stripped-back voice-note recording demo of the track, showcasing frontman Ollie Anglesea’s acoustic abilities, ‘Put The World To Rights’ by The Lilacs is out now ahead of their debut album, ‘Keeping Up With The Joneses’, out on October 2nd via Manchester’s indie label Scruff Of The Neck.
The Wigan four-piece waste no time getting into that infectious hook, leaning into their typical singalong energy – the track feels crafted perfectly for festival crowds. Though festival season is now slowly coming to a close, the band have their biggest ever headline tour coming up, kicking off in early 2027.
There’s a sense of momentum riddled throughout the track, with the guitars driving the song forward while Anglesea’s vocals sit comfortably just over them, further adding to that familiar Lilacs anthem feel that they’re known for. With lyrics about putting the past behind and growing apart from someone the introduction reminisces about, it’s easy to picture the catchy chorus being met by a venue full of fans’ voices, especially now that they’re stepping into bigger venues.
After a catchy guitar leadline, something that’s always featured in a Lilacs tune, in typical Sam Birchall style, the song drops down before building back up to that catchy chorus, exploding with anthemic energy.
With ‘Put The World To Rights’ being the final single ahead of ‘Keeping Up With The Joneses’, the album is now just around the corner, with the band calling it “arguably our favourite track on the record” and admitting there’s a “genuine feel of excitement” surrounding its release.
Following a busy festival season taking in Kendal Calling, Tramlines and Latitude, The Lilacs have built plenty of momentum heading into their debut.That momentum continues into 2027, with the band taking on their biggest ever headline tour, including Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse.
After guitarist Sam Birchall’s year-long battle with cancer and recent all-clear, the release of their debut album feels like an even bigger milestone for the Wigan four-piece, marking the beginning of what looks set to be their biggest chapter yet.
