The Slow Readers Club continue their rise to the top with a series of successful, sold out album launches this month. Friday evening saw the four piece grace the stage of the beautiful Bury Met.
The band were frantically signing albums in the famous Wax and Beans record shop, conveniently located over the road beforehand as many fans were eager to get their hands on the latest offering ‘Out Of a Dream’.
This evening’s performance was a special live play of the new material which many fans had collected on their way in, it also coincided with the release date so many fans had yet to get the latest tracks. Some of the albums had included personal messages, a nice touch, and a display of gratitude towards their most loyal followers.
There was a buzz in the air as the chants of ‘Reeeeaderrrrs’ was bellowed out of the dark depths of the crowd, before the band made their way onto the stage to huge applause. Lead singer Aaron Starkie dressed in a very fetching long hooded overcoat which added to the mysterious nature of this band.
Brooding and moody, it is hard to take your eyes off Starkie’s mesmerising stage presence. The talented ensemble of musicians around him forces you to do so and I was hugely impressed by the musicianship as this was the first full Readers show I had attended, only previously seeing them guest spot at a tribute show last year.
Having heard their previous material I must say that this album in my opinion is a step up. Emotive, with beautiful melody and of course Starkie’s unique vocal efforts make this release a must have on collectors shelves.
The band played a surprise encore, ending the evening with four previously released tracks, ending the evening with crowd favourite ‘Lunatic’. The set was just over an hour, but it was clear that many of the audience wanted more.
The band stayed behind to sign albums and chat to fans, and it is clear that they have a wonderful affinity with them. The band continue their album launches in London this week. Check out their website below to see where you can catch them next!
