What did you expect from The Vaccines?
Nostalgia, reminiscence, and the soundtrack to our youth, to name a few!
The Vaccines have recently embarked on a 15-year anniversary tour of their debut album, ‘What Did You Expect from The Vaccines’. A record that helped to define indie nights out across the UK, with the songs filling dancefloors in clubs like The Leadmill, Stone Roses Bar, and a personal fave… 42s!
For Manchester, Victoria Warehouse was the choice of venue, treating us Mancs with two dates. I must admit, getting there a bit earlier to secure a decent spot can make a huge difference with this venue.
The first half of the set saw the album played in its entirety, opening with ‘Blow It Up’ and rightfully closing with ‘Somebody Else’s Child’. People were seen to be reminiscing to ‘Post Break-Up Sex’, ‘All In White’ and ‘I Always Knew’. It was refreshing to see the lack of phones, but that definitely went out of the window as the band played ‘If You Wanna’. I think that’s pretty understandable though, right?
The rest of the set made sure to include songs from all albums in between, with a tour debut of ‘Your Love Is My Favourite Band’. It was pretty clear to see that most fans had stayed with The Vaccines well beyond that first record, with people singing along to every word.
Everyone seemed to leave the venue smiling and laughing, even on a Sunday. That’s the thing with live music, it can make you forget the madness in the world, even just for a few hours.
‘If You Wanna’ come back to Manchester next year, we wouldn’t say no to a 15-year anniversary tour of Come Of Age! (please).
