Tim Burgess was back in the company of the mighty fine interviewer Chris Hawkins yesterday evening. The special event was held at the AO Arena’s smaller venue which has meant more scope for more intimate evenings at a venue usually reserved for the biggest shows in town.
Burgess and Hawkins have excellent chemistry onstage, with Hawkins able to foresee answers, and always allows his guests to talk, with just the odd insightful prompt, so never any awkward silences in a Chris Hawkins interview, which is what makes him, in my opinion one of the best in the business.
Burgess had once again attracted a full audience, many seemingly excited to get up close and personal to the music icon who for the last thirty play years has made many people happy via his beautiful song lyrics and melodies. This evening we got to go right back to his humble beginnings, starting as a labourer, listening to his walkman and no doubt dreaming of perhaps where he sits this evening, amongst fans who have spent years watching his band The Charlatans perform.
The interview is intertwined with acoustic performances, which showcases a different side to one we are used to when performing with The Charlatans. We are promised new music is on the way, and there was a little discussion over Tim’s new look, which remained some what of a mystery but he said more will be revealed soon, (he was sporting a beard which was the topic of a few questions from Chris!).
The evening flowed well and the audience hung on every word, gaining an insight into the life and history of one of Manchester’s most well known frontmen. Another excellent and insightful evening, well done to both, a very enjoyable way to spend a Sunday evening, and I am looking forward to the next one!
