Singer songwriter Tom Walker returned to Manchester on Tuesday evening to deliver a special candlelit performance at Manchester’s New Century Hall. The stage looked magnificent and made the large venue feel cosy and intimate. I have never seen New Century so busy as Walker had managed to sell out this show, impressive for a Tuesday evening and when other big league stars were on just down the road.
Walker is quite possibly one of the happiest performers I have ever watched, a beaming smile throughout and his down to earth patter with fans made him incredibly likeable. Walker spoke of his recent marriage which emitted a huge cheer from the crowd, and he lamented his struggles with long distance relationships, before singing a beautiful track ‘Just You and I’ which was dedicated to his wife.
Walker admitted that he had previously been nervous on the tour, but he seemed completely at ease with this warm Manchester audience who gladly sang along when asked to, making the smile even bigger on Walker’s face. You cannot deny that this man has an incredibly talented, his voice unique and soulful, and really something quite magical in the ballads of which there are a few.
The final song of the evening was of course his most famous track ‘Leave a Light On’ which in this venue, with such outstanding acoustics, combined with the candlelight, the piano accompaniment and of course Walker’s voice made for no doubt many audience members ‘ultimate gig moment’ of 2025 so far!
Walker has more tour dates planned, along with a number of dates in the summer supporting indie icons the Script. All dates and ticket info are listed on his website below.
