Video Premier: Manchester’s Cultures ‘Shake’ Things Up With New Single

Bridging the gap between alt-rock and indie pop, Greater Manchester’s Cultures have been plying their trade across the region for the last four years, and their intelligent and idiosyncratic brand of indie has been turning heads and picking up traction ever since, allowing Cultures to cement themselves as one of Manchester’s most promising new bands.

As if any proof was needed, ‘Shake’ is the latest single from the trio, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Originally conceived as an optimistic take on love and longing in one’s hometown, this year saw the track take on a whole new meaning.

“The song is about the realisation that you don’t need to escape the place you’re in if you’ve got someone who helps you escape in your mind” explains frontman Josh Spivey. “We started writing the song in winter…and as we finished it off this spring, it took on a whole new meaning as we all of a sudden found ourselves trapped and wanting to escape our homes and towns for a very different reason”

Optimistic and uplifting, but also eerily poignant, ‘Shake’ builds on the anthemic foundations of predecessor ‘Away from Us’ while harbouring an altogether more melodic and pop-driven aesthetic that not only elevates them above their contemporaries, but finds Cultures stepping into a whole different league.
