It’s RGM video premiere time, today we have the new video from Simon Lacey and his new video The Thought of Floating in Space (Live)
Here are a few words about the video, enjoy!👊
The Thought Of Floating In Space is a live performance film of the first release from Simon Lacey’s forthcoming album A Quarter Of A Million Miles. It features Simon Lacey on piano, Violetta Suvini on violin and Gabriel Francis-Deqhani on cello playing live in Simon’s front room on September 7th 2025. It was filmed and edited by Jude Lacey. This film of The Thought Of Floating In Space features a stripped down version of the track featuring solo violin over a piano and cello accompaniment.
A Quarter Of A Million Miles is a ten-part vocal and instrumental work inspired by Michael Collins’ evocative Apollo 11 memoir, Carrying The Fire. The album pays tribute to Collins’ unique perspective as the astronaut who remained in lunar orbit, alone and out of radio contact aboard the command module on the far side of the moon, while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended to the Moon’s surface.
Crafted with rich orchestral arrangements, expressive piano, compelling vocal performances, and taut experimental textures, the album captures the profound isolation of space, as well as the quiet poetry of Collins’ words. The Thought Of Floating In Space evokes an atmosphere of wonder, adventure and other-worldliness. “Collins’ memoir had a real emotional impact on me,” says Lacey. “There was insight, introspection and tension in his extraordinary experience that I wanted to honour musically. This album is a personal reflection on his remarkable story.”
