“I wanted to capture the magic and the excitement of a long-distance train that a child in the 70’s might have felt while taking a brand new High Speed Train to a far-flung sunny destination.
We’ve used old promotional footage from British Transport Films (which was shot in a much more dynamic and deliberately exciting way than most trackside footage) cut to the beat of the song, showing not just the train itself (as a legendary work of engineering and design) but the people of all backgrounds that British Rail envisaged using it.
From businessmen reviewing papers together in first class, to leisure travellers enjoying the buffet and smoking cars, through to kids pressing their faces up against the window to see the sea on their way to a beach holiday, the Inter-City 125 took you where you wanted to be, and in (very 70’s) style too.”
