From London, Electron brings us their latest offering “Lie to Me”, adding to their already impressive catalogue of music.
On the single, Electron says that “Lie to Me” will bring a “raw heaviness with an unexpectedly vulnerable edge” but also “pushes the band’s boldest impulses forward” – consider me intrigued.
They say they take inspiration from the likes of Architects, Spiritbox and Korn for a number of reasons, so I was expecting heavy guitar riffs, lots of attitude and possibly an injection of punk.
So, was I right?
Well. the track is incredibly heavy in parts, and does give those heavy guitar riffs, particularly in the beginning and they dip in and out of them throughout the track, but they have a brilliant mix of elements throughout, from metal-core vocals, almost screamo level to an extent, to deep yet soft tones where you can connect with the track and it’s slowed down, it’s that that hooked me in.
I’ll be honest when I say I’m generally not into the nu-metal, heavy rock type of stuff (which if I am wrong on that, apologies!) but this plays with a lot of different genres and eased me in, in a way, that gave me space to relax into it, which is words I never thought I’d say with a heavier track.
The musicianship of this is something to be admired, there’s some incredible guitar and drum work in here and it is SEAMLESS, so I really admire that, the vocals have a brilliant range and feels like they could suit a number of genre’s towards the heavier/punk/rock side – all of it is incredibly versatile.
When I first saw the length, I initially thought just over 4 minutes was going to be a little bit too long, but you’re that distracted by the rollercoaster of tempo, instrumentals and variation of vocals that it absolutely flies by!
The ending is probably it’s heaviest and whilst it felt quite abrupt on the first listen, after a couple more, it is tied off nicely, so I think that’s pretty polished too.
Overall, for someone who doesn’t gravitate towards this genre, I was blown away, it was exciting, definitely pushed boundaries and experimented, and gave me a true insight into the skill of Electron, well played.
