This is Bleach Boy at its most tantalisingly restrained. Burning slowly and surely – and tickling all their panoramic shoegaze fancies – Amos Flynn intimately studies the messy love stories of our older and younger selves via nostalgic flashbacks to the movies and television shows of yore.
A far cry from the brutalisms of earlier releases, (nevertheless during their incipient stages as a group), ‘Supermarket Sweep’ presents another indication of Bleach Boy’s deft versatility and unbarred musical scope.
Its sci-fi inspired music video, flush with lamp-lit streets of a Manchester midnight and a dystopian love-triangle – is notably directed by long time collaborator Sam O’Leary, who elsewhere has worked as animation director for dramas Inside No. 9, and Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.
