WE REVIEW ‘NEVER FORGET’ – THE NEW SINGLE FROM KITTY-MAY

East Anglian indie dream pop singer-songwriter, Kitty-May has released her latest offering ‘Never Forget’ on c21 Records in advance of some soon-to-be-announced live dates.

On first listen I was a bit uncertain about the track, I’m not normally a fan of tracks where the vocals sit high in the mix but in this instance, it works well and emphasises Kitty-May’s quite distinctive vocal style. It’s a style that flows from wistfully spoken to quite powerful but always remains respectful to the song. Too many vocalists love to show off so it’s always great to hear singers respecting the song, obviously, it probably helps that Kitty-May was the writer in this instance.

In terms of the track, it’s unashamedly dramatic indie pop and there’s nothing wrong with that. Some of the melodies and chord changes, especially in the chorus had me blending Radiohead and ABBA in my head. Not two artists you would normally find yourself throwing together in a review and that’s no doubt a good thing for Kitty-May.

Overall ‘Never Forget’ is a catchy, albeit quirky and quite distinctive number from Kitty-May that certainly has the potential to go some distance.

I found myself digging out Kitty-Mays After Dark EP from last year and was pleased I had. Kitty-May has the kind of dreamlike vocal style that sadly appears to be disappearing from indie pop these days. I look forward to hearing Kitty-May’s future projects.
