WE REVIEW NEW ALBUM FROM BOBBIE PERU – NURSE CORKSCREW

Manchester powerhouses Bobbie Peru is on the cusp of releasing their 12-track album Nurse Corkscrew. Promising to impress with intense vocals and riffs vowed to wow, the excitement is rife for fan and artist alike.

Kicking off the album with track number one entitled ‘Psychopath’. Demanding instant attention with a melody that just punches you straight in the face. Engaging us with the album almost instantly before bringing in explosive vocals to match the aura released from the melody. Moving on into tracks two and three we get the same high energy guitars riffs and bouncing drumbeats paired perfectly with that punk style vocal many know and love. Blending what I can only describe as different elements of chaos almost harmoniously which I wasn’t sure would work but, it most definitely does! Envisioning these tracks to go perfectly alongside a live crowd who loves to move and interact with one another, this album is bound to be a major hit with them.

The title of the album Nurse Corkscrew comes in to play as track five on the album. Building up intensity for around a minute of the introduction I feel a sense of eagerness brewing inside me for the track. Hitting us with elements of guitar rock and a shine on the vocals in this particular song it’s easy to see why this was chosen to be the title track. Including a bouncy instrumental section before the re-entrance of vocals had me surprised yet rather obsessed, proving to us that these boys are determined to keep us on our toes and unsure of where things might go next.

Throughout the course of the album, we can see similarities in the style of each track, playing to their strengths as well as taking moments to show off further abilities and skills. I notice this particularly in track eight ‘Possible Ops’ which is the one collaboration track on the album. Pairing with Conal Byrne, together they create a similar initial feel to the previous songs before then switching up to a more chilled musical approach. Taking emphasis on the lyrics and vocals in this track, I’m a big fan. I find each track provides us with a spotlight on each member of the bands specified skill. For example, in track nine ‘Cottonmouth’ I feel as though the drums get more of a lead in comparison to previous tracks. Just like in other tracks it switches between the vocals or those beloved guitar riffs leading the way.

The penultimate track number twelve entitled ‘Steelhead’ plays us out of this crazy world we’ve been journeying through, and it ends it so perfectly. Blending all the elements I’ve grown to love throughout this album into one track, it reminds me of an end credit scene in a film.

I highly recommend giving this album a listen through in its entirety as its guaranteed to impress!
