SAMEDI - BIRDSONG

WE REVIEW NEW SINGLE BY SADDLEWORTH’S SAMEDI ‘BIRDSONG’

Birdsong the debut single from Saddleworth’s own Samedi, and let me tell you, it’s without a doubt got proper ‘windows down, sun on your face, nowhere to be” energy.

From the get go, it leans into those warm, vintage road trip vibes. You don’t so much listen to it but more so drift off with it.

It’s indie rock with soul. Think Sam Fender if he chilled out with a bit of Incubus and decided to just feel things for a bit. It’s not in a rush, and that’s the charm. There’s no big blow-up or dramatic shift. It just is, and that’s more than enough. The track doesn’t seem to care where you’re going, it’s just happy to ride shotgun.

Samedi’s personality really cuts through. There’s authenticity here, no try-hard coolness, just… actual cool. For instance the vocal carries a sense of ease, a little weathered but warm. Along with guitars which hit you like exactly how you’d expect but nevertheless deliver. That said, it could sit a bit tighter in the mix. There’s times it floats just out of reach and gets a little lost.

Production-wise, it could use a touch more oomph in places, maybe a bit more punch to give those emotional moments especially, an extra lift. But for a debut? Altogether it’s strong. It feels like something you’ve known for years. Comforting, familiar, quietly confident.

Overall, Samedi’s off to a solid start. It’s a great introduction into Samedi’s world, and no doubt everything will level up with each release. I’m already looking forward to where the road leads next as this exciting journey gets underway.
