WE REVIEW THE DEBUT EP FROM EIGHTY EIGHT MILES – CLASS OF EIGHTY EIGHT

Birmingham’s indie-rockers Eight Eight Miles have shared their exciting debut EP Class of Eighty Eight.

The band have shared their folk-rock, indie-pop sound across the country, selling out 4 headline shows in a row in their hometown. They show no signs of stopping with their first long release, sharing their infectious melodies for us to chew on.

The leading track, ‘Always On The Run’ starts the EP with electric energy. 70’s-esque guitar rips and keyboard melodies layer alongside smooth vocal harmonies that detail the desperation of escaping an insistent lover.

Switching gear to a more indie-pop-injected track, ‘Sophie’ is a catchy song of reflection that follows themes within the same vein as the opener- trying to find space from someone who just won’t quit.

Following this song, ‘Hi’ feels like a wholesome, stripped-back track wanting a crush to “just say hi”. One of the more sunny tracks of the EP.

‘You Just Never Really Wanna Call Me Home’ features dreamy, twanging guitar lines with distant vocals, conveying that hopeful wishing-state explored in the song lyrics: “But I wish you would call”.

‘Sexy Song’ is riddled with tension from the start, with thudding drumbeats and hard-hitting guitar solos that build in intensity as the song progresses. At this point in the EP, the vocals feel more rugged and raw. I think it’s safe to say this song is aptly named!

Closing out Class of Eighty Eight, ‘Favourite Season’ reaches an emotional peak of the project for me; I can envision this being a perfect end song for live gigs. With such a strong and cohesive EP, their upcoming shows, including a main stage debut at Truck Festival 2026, will not be ones to miss!
