Where's Sammy!? - Acid Rain

WE REVIEW THE LATEST SINGLE FROM WHERE’S SAMMY!? – ACID RAIN

Essex four-piece Where’s Sammy!? cascade into 2024 with their brand new single — the floaty yet ever-so funky ‘Acid Rain’.

Since their inception back in 2021, the band have toured across their native Essex and London, plus played spots further afield like Liverpool and Bristol. A handful of singles have been released over the years including debut ‘Bliss’ and ‘Lois Lane’. However, this latest offering gives us the very first taste of their forthcoming EP ‘Sammy Went to Hollywood’ – and despite the song title, it’s pretty damn sweet!

Straight from the off, we’re hit with plucky guitars and a laidback, woozy tempo to the track. Against the backdrop of a bluesy bassline, lead vocalist Dan Williams flits between light and soulful to almost spoken word in places as verses snake and spiral round and round. Once the chorus kicks in, we’re deep down the rabbit hole.
The accompanying trippy music video blurs between fancy dress parties, dizzily drunk antics and fuzzy hallucinations of Matrix-esque affairs.

“Don’t pretend / It’s like it never ever ends / And hold your breath / While the world just seems to bend / ‘cause I can’t comprehend / I swear we’ve been here all weekend / And I don’t mean to condescend / But I don’t care about your friends”

‘Acid Rain’ feels like the piecing together a particularly heavy night. It’s a melting pot of indie influences, funk-fused licks and rapid-fire vocals – not to mention an incredibly agile bassline.
A three minute thirty second tumbling dream of a track that’ll leave you light-headed… but more than ready for the next round. And still looking for ‘Sammy’…
