YON MON - WARMONGERS

WE REVIEW THE LATEST SINGLE FROM YON MON – WARMONGERS

Bolton’s very own Roy Fletcher, frontman of the band The Shed Project, is back with his solo project YON MON. His latest song Warmongers delivers a strong message with an exceptional indie rock instrumental and melancholic, thought-provoking lyrics. This song is deeply compelling, it shines a light on the current government, making this track a dynamic tune.

The song channels the essence of the 90s brit-pop genre but also has undertones of the 2000s rock era with hard-hitting guitar instrumentation as well as the small, noticeable echoes of Linkin Park. This song is bringing multiple genres together in such a unique way!

From hearing the opening of this track, I knew I was in for a very special treat. With captivating lyrics such as ‘propaganda is one big lie’ and ‘desperate measures, desperate times’ shows how Roy is not afraid to call politicians out for what they put people through. It shows how honest he can be as a musician. This song feels as though it leans towards the working class and how politicians think they have a major authority. We see these things and don’t let it go unseen, calling them out for what they truly are.

Midway through, the track gleams a light on a guitar solo so enchanting it made me want the song to never finish, it is just perfect and is extremely well fitting for this politically driven composition. The talent portrayed in this track is undoubtedly recognisable and projects a critique of the modern leadership in the UK.
