There’s a certain bravery in making an album that tries to explain life when most people can barely explain their group chat. LANA CROW steps up with In Spirit, a record that wants to tackle the human journey, inner peace, modern chaos and emotional survival. Lofty stuff. The good news is she mostly pulls it off without disappearing up her own arse.
Opening with I Do, Crow sets the tone with warmth and synthy spacious vibes. Lanas voice carries that lived-in quality many polished pop singers would kill for.
Orwellian Times is where the album properly bites. Sharp title, sharper intent. It taps into modern paranoia and information overload without sounding like a lecture. That’s a tricky balance. Too many artists try social commentary and end up sounding like a one of those annoying people in a pub. Crow instead keeps it personal, which gives it weight.
No Secret (remastered) feels like a bridge between older eras of her sound and this more ambitious version of herself. It’s polished, maybe a touch too polished, but undeniably catchy. Then So Done goes dark, madly hard punching lyrics to a hard beat that grows as the song progresses, its cool I like it.
Unknow the “Known” is probably the album’s strangest moment, and fair play for that. It doesn’t entirely land structurally, but it deserves credit for trying something less obvious. Sometimes albums need a bit of grit to stop them becoming wallpaper. This is that moment.
What Brings You Back slows thing down again, its Reflective, melodic and emotionally sharp, Then title track In Spirit closes things with a sense of release rather than grandstanding. Smart move. She doesn’t oversell the message.
Crow blends acoustic vulnerability with shinier electronic textures and comes out sounding like herself. At times the album’s conceptual ambitions slightly outrun the songwriting. A few tracks feel more interesting in theory than in execution, and occasionally the production gloss irons out some of the rawness that makes her compelling. When she’s messy, she’s fascinating. When she’s neat, she’s just good.
