WE REVIEW THE NEW ALBUM FROM PRIMALUCE – WAY OF PERFECTION

Paris-based progressive metal project Primaluce is back with Way Of Perfection, an album that clearly shows how far the project has come. The band is the brainchild of Stefano Primaluce, who handles rhythm guitars, keyboards, backing vocals and programming. He is joined by Andrea Rocchi on lead and acoustic guitars, Marco Adami on bass, Michele Avella on drums, and Falco on vocals. After 2025’s Dark Mirrors, this new album like a step forward in confidence and identity. It’s also the first fully vocal Primaluce album, which changes the whole dynamic in a really interesting way.

Right from the opener “The Wind Remains”, the band sets the bar high. The intro is seriously impressive. Huge drums, powerful guitars, and an instrumental section that grabs your attention immediately. For a moment I honestly thought it might stay instrumental, until the vocals suddenly arrive at 1:20. That transition surprised me a bit, but once everything settles in, the song takes shape. Still, I have to ask… why over seven minutes?

Then comes “Back Into the Blue”, and this is where the album really hooked me. The riffs sound hypnotising from the very first seconds, and Falco’s vocals fit perfectly. He reaches high notes with ease and has a tone that feels both strong and emotional at the same time. I loved the imagery with the lyrics here “I’m falling back into the blue, Where all the colours feel like true ,Every whisper of the sea”

This track is just excellent. Music, vocals, atmosphere, everything works together. And here, I’m definitely not complaining about the 7:48 runtime. I can already imagine how insane this would sound live.

“The Turning of the Circle” starts with urgency and gives a sense of anticipation, but following the previous track was always going to be tough. It’s good, the band is clearly extremely skilled, but it didn’t stand out for me in the same way.

“Countdown at Dawn” has a really nice detail where the instruments stop when Falco sings the title. Small things like that make a big difference. And at under six minutes, it almost feels like a short song on this album!

With “Running Out of Yesterday”, the guitars take over in the best possible way. There’s so much energy and fun in the riffs that I have to admit, I barely paid attention to the lyrics. Sorry Falco, the instruments stole the show here.

“Heart of the Moment” is cool, but not a personal standout.

Then we get another highlight with “When the Light Returns”. The piano at the beginning gives it a beautiful, almost orchestral feel, and it quickly becomes one of the strongest songs on the record. This is where Falco really shines as a vocalist.

With lines like “Every truth I failed to see is finding its way back to me“, there’s more focus on emotion and lyrics here and it pays off completely.

Later, “Stand in My Name” and “Black Static Halo” are solid tracks, but again didn’t really jump out at me.

On “Echoes of Tomorrow”, the drums are absolute killers. One thing I appreciate on this album is how every member of the band gets moments to stand out instead of just supporting the guitars.

“In the Tides of Time” brings more of an alt-rock vibe, which is interesting, but at 7:15 it felt a bit too long for me.

The album closes with “Where the Water Meets the Stone” and it’s a great final track. Falco proves once again what an incredible singer he is, and the bass work in the middle section is seriously impressive. Around 3:30 the song tricks you into thinking it’s ending, with Falco holding a long fading note before the music turns into a cool soundscape. I almost wished that quieter moment lasted longer, but it’s still a powerful way to finish the album.

Overall, Way of Perfection feels like a real journey. Some songs hit harder than others but the level of musicianship is consistently high and when the album reaches its peaks, it really reaches them.
