London based band The Utopiates have just released their brand new album Let’s Make This Happen (LMTH for short). It’s full of catchy, synth-driven tracks. If you’re new to these guys, you’ll definitely want to discover more after hearing this brilliant album.
Upon first hearing this album all I could think about was how the 80s synth era had inspired this band. The first track Lost My Groove caught my attention from the get go with the catchy vocals and instrumental. If this was played on a speaker at high volume, your entire body would shake from the vibrations from the bassline used in this track. The vocals are quite similar to something The Streets would produce. Moving onto the second track Neighbourhood I could really tell Gary Numan was possibly an inspiration, the instrumental sounds like a modern version of Cars. This band is single handedly bringing back synth-pop with a twist! The instrumentals are so memorable as well as the vocals and we are only two songs in.
Montezuma is the third track. It’s much more chill than the first two, but still carries those 80s vibes with calmer vocals and instrumental. The songs all seem very different to each other and carry their own stories. Track four Evanescent is just 2 minutes 44 seconds, but within those two minutes you delve deeper into the world of The Utopiates. None of their songs are repetitive and all have their own personality.
Reputation, Insomnia, and The Path are just some of my favourites off this album. I think these songs make the bands personality come out more as they are really unique and different from one another. The songs are bold, danceable, and capture every member of the band’s talent perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to these tracks the most. They also remind me of early Depeche Mode, big approval from me!
The last three tracks on the album, Lungs, Let’s Make This Happen, and I Don’t Know What To Say are definitely the more slower songs on this album. They seem to go more in depth about their personal problems more than the other songs. The messages within the songs are relatable and powerful, making listeners reflect on their own lives. This is a great way to connect with their audience.
This album is most certainly a 10/10. It’s lyricism and instrumentals are both beautiful and extraordinary. I think this band can go a long way and gain way more listeners than they already have. So, what are you waiting for? Check out The Utopiates now!
