WE REVIEW THE NEW ALBUM FROM YOSSI – LOST SOULS

Yossi’s new EP ‘Lost Souls’ is a mix of spoken word, electronica and hip-hop that combines these styles in a way that feels very unique. The lyrics explore themes of disconnection, searching and the overwhelming nature of modern life. They are all wrapped in a rich, atmospheric soundscape that sticks with you.

The title track, “Lost Souls”, immediately pulled me in. A fusion of ambient electronica and slam poetry, it’s unlike anything I’ve heard before. Yossi’s voice moves through an airy, layered soundscape. As an electronica fan, I found myself drawn deeply into the soundscape, almost losing sight of the words. The only downside? It’s less than two minutes long and I was left wanting more.

“The City” kicks things up a notch with a hip-hop beat and a bassline that loops in an addictive way. Yossi’s delivery is tight, riding the rhythm while capturing that feeling of being stuck and searching for something more: “Lost in the city / There must be something more than this”. Toward the end, the music fades, letting his voice take center stage with a cool echo effect. But then, out of nowhere, a whole new beat kicks in with no vocals, which threw me off a bit. It almost feels like the start of a different track for no reason.

Closing out the EP, “Tryfan” brings us back into the electronica/ambient world, this time with a more psychedelic and experimental edge. The production is intricate and layered, demanding multiple listens to fully appreciate both the musical textures and cryptic lyrics. Lines like “Fucking slave I need to go home” and “Where the fuck is the butter” add to the sense of disorientation, almost like an internal dialogue, shifting between clarity and confusion. At over four minutes, it’s the longest track on the EP, and while it didn’t resonate with me as much as the others, it left a lasting (and disturbing!) impression.

Overall, ‘Lost Souls’ is an ambitious and unique project that proves Yossi isn’t afraid to experiment. And that, not just in spoken word, but in the way music and poetry can coexist. It’s hypnotic, unsettling, and engaging, offering something new with every listen. Whether you come for the beats, the words or the atmosphere, this EP is an experience worth diving into.
