WE REVIEW THE NEW E.P. FROM ROLLA – BORN IN NOISE

After a very exciting 2025 with a huge headline show at New Century Hall and the release of their anthemic third E.P. We Owe You Nothing (2025), Rolla are back to keep up momentum with back-to-back E.P. releases with their latest effort Born In Noise (2026) which already before listening I thought this was a great title for them given the nature of their music.

Opening the E.P. with leading single released at the beginning of February, ‘Breakin’ Out’ is characterised by distorted radio noise before erupting into a huge wall of sound. The energy calms in the verses which are stark contrasts to the storming swagger in the choruses Rolla are known for. Whilst not rapid in pace, they are commanding with several layers of instruments that hook your attention. What an opener.

‘I’m In Heaven’ presents guitars that saunter into your ear drums as drums pound from all angles. This is a battle cry anthem and Rolla are only going to come out on top. The trajectory James Gilmore’s vocals fly on with each lyric of the choruses are smooth and glide through the distorted guitars. The outro portrays a more chaotic overwhelming cacophony of sounds with guitar solos that are symbolic of the “born in noise” name.

‘Late To My Funeral’ is the second single released just earlier this month and breaks through that tough exterior Rolla are known for. This track exhibits a more sensitive nature to the band which shows their dynamism lyrically and musically. The guitars and drums flow like waves as they carry the vocals through the song to still deliver that anthemic feel.

Rolla are slamming straight back into your face with their last track ‘Soul On Fire’ with groovy guitar lines that instantly get your head nodding along. The relationship between the vocals and backing vocals feel like a loose conversation that blends seamlessly. The bridge is brilliant with a gripping guitar solo and the drums crashing together before the delivery of the final anthemic chorus to close out the E.P. They are truly born in noise.

This is Rolla’s best effort yet and I can see all the tracks doing well on their upcoming tour in April which is the same month this E.P. is released so very exciting times ahead for Rolla fans. Whilst keeping to their nature they have showed development from previous E.P.s to keep themselves fresh and raring to go.
