WE REVIEW THE NEW EP FROM ABS – ABS

Singer-songwriter abs is a true surprise in the music scene as she perfectly navigates genres with a penchant for neo-soul, R&B, funk, and electro-pop. Her self-titled debut EP is the perfect example of the artist’s talent and her musical influences. Having only recently embarked on live performances with a full band in 2023, abs has quickly made a new for herself in the music scene, allowing us to sell out shows and earn a spot on the prestigious Tramlines shortlist.

The EP kicks off with “Fool Around”, a song that introduces abs’ funk side with jazz elements. It sets the tone for the rest of the EP, providing an energetic and groovy start.

The next track, “Access Restricted”, is a complete 360-degree turn from the opening track with a focus on the mesmerizing instrumental and abs’ flow. Singing, rapping, there’s nothing she can’t do!

Then, we have “Blossom”, the calmest track of the EP that falls into the neo-soul category. This particular song allows listeners to enjoy the artist’s vocal prowess and it adds a softer side to the whole musical experience.

Lastly, with “Heaven”, abs introduces electro-pop elements to her music confirming the genre-defying side of the EP.

Abs’ self-titled EP is both unexpected and a must-listen for music lovers. It offers a diverse palette of sounds across only four tracks. Each song represents a different genre, but it doesn’t prevent the EP from being a cohesive piece of work. abs is undoubtedly an artist on the rise who knows how to reinvent herself and keeps us yearning for more.
