BLUEPRINT TOKYO - BLUE

WE REVIEW THE NEW EP FROM BLUEPRINT TOKYO – BLUE

Blueprint Tokyo’s latest EP, Blue, is an interesting exploration into the complexities of modern life, wrapped in a sound that’s as inviting as it is introspective. Hailing from Oklahoma City, this duo seems to have taken the traditional indie rock formula, dissected it, and reassembled it into something that feels both familiar and refreshingly new. With a collection of five tracks, they navigate through some diverse subjects, all while maintaining a coherence that makes this EP feel like a complete and intentional.

The EP kicks off with “Odysseus,” a track that immediately sets the tone with its layered vocals and rich harmonies. There’s something cinematic about the way Blueprint Tokyo introduces you to their world here, with a sound that manages to be both expansive and intimate at the same time.

Moving into “Only Hearts,” Blueprint Tokyo shifts gears slightly, delivering a track that feels a bit more grounded yet no less impactful. A tad Foo Fighters too. This isn’t a band that’s trying to be overly clever or abstract; they want you to enjoy the ride, and they make sure the melodies stick with you long after the track has ended.

“Closed Door Drama” introduces a more introspective tone, diving into the challenges of living in modern society. There’s a palpable tension in the track, it’s not my favorite track on the EP. You can hear shades of post-punk, new wave, and even a bit of shoegaze in the mix, yet it all comes together in a way I enjoyed, but it did take a few listens.

“Mission Control” a moment of reflection before the final push. The production on this track is particularly noteworthy, with layers of sound that create a lush backdrop for the vocals to soar over. There’s a warmth to this track that makes it one of the standouts on the EP. A very catch chorus!

The EP closes with “Transfer,” is a bit of a surprise, its a bit like Weezer, It’s the perfect ending to an EP

Blueprint Tokyo has managed to create a collection of songs that are as thought-provoking as they are enjoyable.

If this is the direction they’re headed in, then Blueprint Tokyo is a band worth keeping a very close eye on.
