CRIS CAP

WE REVIEW THE NEW EP FROM CRIS CAP – LIVE LIKE MY CAT

Cris Cap’s Live Like My Cat EP is a quirky, feel-good slice of pop that doesn’t take itself too seriously—thankfully, that’s where most of its charm lies. Hailing from Düsseldorf, Germany, Cris leans into light-hearted storytelling with a dash of jazz-infused whimsy, especially on the title track. It’s playful and fun, but while there’s plenty to like, the EP feels more like a casual experiment than a fully realized artistic statement.

The title track, “Live Like My Cat,” is the clear standout. It’s a jazzy, toe-tapping ode to feline simplicity, laced with a wink and a smile. Cris’s vocals are smooth and easygoing, gliding over a jaunty piano line and subtle bass accents that give the track its jazzy edge.

The lyrics, inspired by his family cat Boomer, are delightfully tongue-in-cheek, perfectly capturing the laziness and mysteriousness of the average house cat. It’s a clever premise, and Cris delivers it with enough charm to make you grin—though by the end, the joke does start to wear a bit thin. A bit more variation in the arrangement or lyrical progression could’ve kept the track feeling fresh all the way through.

The second and final track, “Howlin’ At The Moon,” shifts gears into more straightforward pop territory. While it doesn’t quite match the personality of the opener, it’s still a pleasant listen, with Cris leaning into a more earnest vocal delivery.

The melody is catchy, and the production feels crisp, but there’s a sense that this track could’ve taken more risks. The safe, radio-friendly vibe leaves it feeling a bit generic, especially following the playful charm of “Live Like My Cat.” A touch of the jazzy flair from the first track would’ve gone a long way toward making this song stand out more.

One thing that becomes clear across the EP is that Cris Cap knows how to create easy-listening pop that doesn’t demand too much from the listener. It’s fun, breezy, and perfect for background listening, but that’s also where it falters. There’s a lack of emotional depth or experimentation that leaves you wanting more.

This EP is a lighthearted ode to a cat’s easygoing life, perfect for a quick mood boost but unlikely to be a long-term favorite.
