NISSU’s ‘Memories’ EP is a heartfelt dive into commercial pop, drenched in polished synths and wrapped in glossy, radio-ready production. It’s clear from the jump that Katy Perry’s larger-than-life influence has left its mark, but NISSU brings his own stamp of vulnerability to the mix. Across six tracks, Lets take a look at them..
On the title track ‘Memories.’ The shimmering production, layered harmonies, and a chorus that practically demands a festival crowd singalong make it an obvious standout. ‘U’ and ‘In My Heart’ keep that emotional thread running strong, delivering euphoric dance beats without sacrificing the personal touch.
A particular highlight comes in the form of ‘Yourself,’ featuring a sharp guest verse from Paigey Cakey. Her gritty delivery adds a welcome edge to the EP, bringing a contrast that elevates the track. It’s a smart collaboration that showcases NISSU’s willingness to experiment and step outside of purely polished pop.
While the production is sleek, a few bolder choices could have set NISSU further apart from the mainstream crowd. A stripped-back piano interlude or a left-field tempo shift might have given certain tracks a more lasting impact. ‘Connection’ is pleasant, but it plays it safe – a little more variation could have added some much-needed dynamism.
But where ‘Memories’ shines is in its sincerity. NISSU’s reflections on past relationships and fleeting moments feel authentic,. The EP closes with ‘Forever Mine,’ a sentimental, mid-tempo ballad that ties it all together with just the right amount of emotional gravitas.
With his knack for catchy hooks and heartfelt storytelling, it’s easy to see him carving out a space in the pop landscape. If he continues to push his boundaries and embrace more experimental elements, the next project could be something ace. For now, though, ‘Memories’ is a glowing reflection of where he’s been – and a promising glimpse of where he’s headed.
