Destined to Fail

WE REVIEW THE NEW EP FROM VIOLET LOVE – DESTINED TO FAIL

New Jersey independent solo artist Violet Love has just released their new EP Destined to Fail. It’s alternative, emotional, and the raw lyricism will have you in a chokehold.

The EP is just three songs long, but all song tell a different story. It’s all about the artists struggles they have faced in their life. This EP isn’t just all about their trauma, it’s also an inspirational piece of work. This artist has written about things some people would never dream of putting into the world and having it in the open, but Violet Love has done the opposite hoping to inspire others to come forward and talk about their problems. This is an artist who cares about their listeners!

Upon listening to the first track Serpent I could already tell what this EP was going to be about. With lyrics such as ‘I fall apart in the bedroom I grew up in’ and ‘I’m grieving the loss of myself’, just paints the picture that this song alone is touching and definitely a song not to ignore. The vocals are raw and intimate. It’s as if this artist is talking to themself through the song and not necessarily talking to the listener. The instrumental is the same throughout the song, there’s no change within this song. Maybe a little change within the instrumental could have made it a bit more emotional, but it doesn’t make the song less listenable.

Apple is the second song of the EP where the instrumental does change and has more of a pop punk feel to it, with a guitar solo and compelling drums at the end of the song. At the start of the song, there is a rhythm that is quite similar to the first song with vocals not sounding as emotional, the vocals don’t hit like they did in the first song either.

There’s about 1 minutes worth of vocals in this track and then the rest is just instrumental, which is different but kind of boring. I did expect a bit more in this song and this is something the artist can most definitely work on. Saying this, the songs overall atmosphere is melancholy, but it’s not a song I would listen to on the daily.

Lastly, the third track Artist has an acoustic start with the vocals kicking right in with the guitar. The vocals are just the same tone as the first two songs. The only difference in this song is the instrumental and lyrics. around 2 minutes into the song the acoustic guitar fades into an electric guitar and drums. It makes the song sound a bit more upbeat, and tolerable. Violet Love can sing but I fear they are not using their talent enough in these songs and maybe need to experiment a bit more with their vocal range to give the listeners something different in each song rather than having the same tone in each song.

Destined to Fail is on streaming platforms. Check it out for yourself and see what you think!
