WE REVIEW THE NEW SERIAL CHILLER SINGLE – IS IT ANY GOOD?

‘No Pay’ is the latest single from three-piece punk outfit, Serial Chiller. The press release states the Hull band are ‘slacker punk driven by bass and fuzzy guitar crafting anxious thoughts on mundane jobs’. Well, that’s as may be but the press release really ought to warn you this record is one minute and fifty-seven seconds of absolute fucking magic!

I wish I’d find more tracks like this in my inbox on a Monday, on any day in fact…. It’s simply a delight to hear a track that’s everything a punk single should be. It’s short, catchy and infectious. There’s a great guitar and bass hook, nice and simple.

It’s not too fast, not too fuzzy, melodic where it should be, and appropriately disharmonious at the chorus. There’s an overall air of far too much apathy to be revolutionary, very slacker indeed…

What’s the message? Well, it’s more of a mantra… ’I need a drink, I’ll be fine…..when I’m out of my mind! (Remember to drink responsibly kids… Ed)

No doubt the extended version would be classed as a three-minute wonder.

Wonderful stuff!
