WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE BY MOXON – PUSHING PAPER

Hailing from Sheffield, Moxon presents his latest single ‘Pushing Paper’ a relaxed track with a phenomenal vocal performance and brilliant guitar work.

Guitar drenched in vibrato opens the track and sets the laid-back, melancholy mood from the word go. Later joined by beautiful melodic lead guitar, the tracks composition lies somewhere between the Arctic Monkeys and Mac Demarco, but in no way sounds derivative as Moxon brings his own spin on the style and shows great artistic character.

The story telling nature of the lyrics works in unison with the backing as the track climaxes and Moxon shows great vocal control as the intensity of the track builds. The character of Moxon’s voice is great with his accent coming through and bringing great personality to the tale.

The track is however crying out for some variation within the final third as the track begins to plateau and the intended structure becomes unclear. That being said, the delicate lead guitars that close the cut are, despite not adding a change in dynamic, a joy and leave the track with an optimistic feel, concluding the track well.
