R†o is a new artist out of London, aiming for the style of moody 80s type pop tracks. Within this track they put forward a slow, 80s style ballad.
Within The Wolf & The Deer there is some fantastic songwriting elements shown throughout. Nice instrumental mixing, a lovely dancey beat that comes in around three minutes, some great harmonic vocal lines. So many elements that meant this track should be good and should show promise from this artist.
However, the very simplistic piano throughout gets very repetitive. The change up as we get further throughout is great, but there could definitely be some more 80s inspired chord changes in there. Another thing to mention is the strange vocals, in some places the melody repeats too often, in others the vocals seem to miss the notes. This is really unfortunate considering the lovely lyrical content and ideas going into it all.
On the whole the track is a great sign of things to come. I just hope that this artist sticks at it and continues to improve because they have a great light of potential hiding within this. From the songwriting, to the instrumentation and composition, it shows off the talent, unfortunately let down by the issues above.
