Is It Any Wonder The Rosellas

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE BY ROSELLAS

The Rosellas are on a roll with their latest track Is It Any Wonder?‘  The quintet from sunny Manchester are starting the year off by releasing the single along with two B sides.

Title track ‘Is It Any Wonder?’ is a bit of a bop. It starts off slowly with a 20 second instrumental before the vocals kick in, a real slice of heaven. They are simple and the soft tone compliments the song.

The lyrics are poetic, it’s almost sounds like a letter being written about falling in love. It’s refreshing and a step back from the modern tunes bragging about sex, drugs and money.

It would fit right in as part of the soundtrack to a early 00’s chick flick. It merges modern riffs with catchy turn of the century melodies, the piano really stands out in this track, and the pitch changes and instrumentals are really effective.

While it is slightly repetitive the tone change in the interlude towards the end of the track is compelling and it fades out with almost a minute of instrumental mirroring the start of the track.

It’s a refreshing number and shows the delicacy song making can have.

On the B side ‘For Tonight’ opens with a soft and slow aura, the lyrics are relatable and almost a bit cutesy. The guitar running through and the end instrumental of the song almost feels like a lullaby, the pace and melody are both relaxing and rich.

The final number ‘Leaving For Chicago’ follows on perfectly . The guitar riffs are first-class and you almost get a jazz element to it it with the piano strung throughout. It’s quite a simple but effective song and the reverb and piano at the end are both used really well.

This release follows their latest single ‘The Same Curse’ and showcases an exciting start of the year for the band. They hit the road in March on their UK tour starting in Liverpool, tickets can be found here.
