WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE BY VOODOO BLOO – WE’RE HERE, LOVE IS SOMEWHERE ELSE
Voodoo Bloo are a small indie rock band from Wellington. Influenced by bands such as Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys, this band aims towards the edgier and poppier sides in most of their tracks.
We’re here, love is somewhere else seems to take a fair bit of influence from bands such as Joy Division. With quite spacey guitar effects and crisp drums. Although somewhat simplistic, a lot of thought and work has gone into this song. Which makes the simplicity seem more like a purposeful choice. It works really well in this genre, with the nice lead guitar repeating a small hook to get the listener on board.
One of the issues I have with this song, however, is that it is only two and a half minutes. It feels as though the sections whiz by at extreme speeds. And although this has benefits, I would have wanted a bit more variation throughout the song. Maybe this is just because this song hints at such good songwriting and we don’t get enough out of this track.
On the whole though, this track is really well put together, with catchy hooks, nice melodic vocal lines, and fantastic composition. Even though it is a bit short, it could work as to leave you wanting more, which is always a win for the consumer and creator. These guys mix spacey rhythms with precise backbeats to create a fantastically interstellar track.
