Liverpool five-piece Credits has released their latest single “Evergreen” – the band describe themselves as “Alt-Country” – according to their Soundcloud anyway!
It’s not a genre-mix I was overly familiar with and well, I was intrigued!
It very much has an indie-alt guitar intro, which immediately pierces through and captures your attention and then it mellows out a bit into a softer, fun and bouncy instrumental, I can definitely feel the country influence in there.
The vocals are stunning, they are the perfect to take centre-stage of the track, not to overpowering, but make themselves known and it ties the whole song together beautifully.
Standing at just over three minutes, it’s not the longest track in the world, but it feels longer, in the best way possible!
I was enjoying it and got a bit lost in it so it just kind of felt like it went on forever.
There are definitely elements in there that just work, the drumbeat is sublime and I feel there is a hint of cello or violin in there (forgive me, I’m not instrumentally inclined!) but it cuts through the backing track seamlessly and sounds incredible.
It also has this gorgeous acoustic feel to it, but I still feel like it could be stripped back more if Credits wanted to play with it more, not that it needs to, it’s brilliant as it is.
Overall, a stunning track with lots of elements, it’s not overwhelming, it’s brilliant, blending two very different genre’s together seamlessly, very, very good.
