We review the new single from Alas de Liona – Pages

Turn over a new page and start a new chapter in life with Alas De Liona’s finest work to date. Best described as a track that comes across as bittersweet and a sort of farewell song to the past, ‘Pagesis an impressive love song that uses light-hearted lyrics to unveil its confident nature. Entering with an ethereal soundscape performed by a delicate piano melody, ‘Pages’ builds into an adventurous alt-pop number with an important topic.

Alas de Liona’s vocals are really what holds your attention throughout. Note-perfect and never needing any added autotune or modulation, her vocals are up there with the greats. Delicate but powerful in the right places, the single definitely would fit in a blockbuster scene where the protagonist is leaving their past behind and starting something new.

“Pages”, in places, feels slightly safe. There are no complicated melodies or unpredictability and sometimes comes across as repetitive melody wise. The vocal melody is enchanting for the first minute and a half and then becomes slightly formulaic and sticks within its boundaries. Nevertheless, you can’t take away the talent and exceptional vocals, songwriting and musicianship that Alas de Liona has.
