We review the new single from BERRIES – The Expert

Off the back of the release of their live sessions from Big Smith Studios, all female grunge outfit BERRIES are back again with their brand new single The Expert.

Exploring what they refer to as “Imposter Syndrome”, this new track has all the bite and venom we have come to expect from the three Londoners, but simultaneously it also incorporates more harmonic features, to give the whole tune a real haunting quality, especially as the track progresses.

The Expert is a track which builds incessantly from a pretty minimal platform that it begins with. It draws you in from the off with its very narrative, storytelling style of the lyrics as they pierce the flashes of guitar. As it continues, though, the layers of sound build and build, giving the whole piece a much fuller sound which comprises not only their short, sharp bursts of sound but also the fuzzy buzz of bass combined with some heavy layers of effects, which are used expertly.

Having already been championed by the likes of new music guru John Kennedy over on Radio X, they could be forgiven for standing still and trying to replicate what has bought them so far already. However, and perhaps most impressively, they continue to develop their sound, exploring new sonic dimensions, and to this point they continue to do it with great success.

This is another example of their talents in creativity seemingly showing no signs of slowing down, and we are the lucky ones who continue to be treated to their magnificently cutting tunes. Keep it up, girls.
