We review the new single from Bird Machine – Our Kind
A rich and powerful sound that comes packaged with an array of folk/alt-rock instrumentation and a substantial amount of feeling, New Zealand duo Bird Machine, Luke and Jenna Grbin, bring us their brand new single ‘Our Kind’.
There is no question that we live in a world where the media constantly puts things in our faces. This review is no different. There is so much out there for us to constantly consume, and so Bird Machine decided to write a song about it. They explain that ‘Our Kind’ is ‘a poignant song that asks us to question how we consume media’.
It can be a distressing thought if you think about it too much, but it’s interesting to listen to Luke and Genna’s take on the matter.
As for the musicality of the song, it really shines through that the pair are writing and recording it all themselves as a couple. They describe themselves as ‘a pair of lovers’, and you really do get a sense of this connection in the song, especially through their intimately blended harmonies. It adds a synergistic feel that gives it an extra layer of likeability.
With plans to release a debut album or EP at some point this year, ‘Our Kind’ is just the start of new music from Bird Machine. Hopefully, they can keep this connected feeling running all the way through their new tracks.
For now, give ‘Our Kind’ a listen, and let us know what you think!
