Bloody Bananas - Aged Yourself Out

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM BLOODY BANANAS – AGED YOURSELF OUT

Led by frontman Cary LaScala, California-based band Bloody Bananas continue to impress with new paradoxical single ‘Aged Yourself Out’.

After initially making a name for themselves with debut record ‘Can’t Be for Real’, the band are wasting no time in proving themselves as one to watch in the alt-rock scene.

With a sound reminiscent of fellow rockers The Strokes and Arcade Fire, ‘Aged Yourself Out’ masterfully blends gentle guitar progressions with hard-hitting drum patterns. Filled with infectious hooks and driven by a rolling bassline, the track showcases dynamic and bright instrumentation.

While on the surface the track seems uplifting and optimistic, it’s solemn and candid lyricism seems to be in complete contrast to its feel-good production. Filled with melancholic and poignant lyrics, LaScala’s captivating songwriting gives the record more meaning with each listen.

The juxtaposition between pop-like upbeat rhythms and serious lyrics comes together perfectly in the chant-like chorus. Placing LaScala’s laidback vocals at the front and centre, the record achingly cites the pain of lost promises and growing older, as punchy drums and electric guitars culminate in the background. With all-too-familiar rhetorical questions repeated throughout, the chorus holds a powerful sense of emotional resonance which is guaranteed to move the listener.

Whether you focus on the track at simply a surface level, or read into its meaning more deeply, ‘Aged Yourself Out’ is a profound display of Bloody Bananas’ multifaceted songwriting and production.

With the remaining band members already recruited, it looks like Bloody Bananas are quickly establishing themselves as promising alternative newcomers.
