WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM BUTTERJUNK – EPISODES

Stating this is their best work to date, I have to completely agree. “episodes” is a gorgeous dream-pop wonder through realms of synthesisers and indie-rock laced vocals. butterjunk have grown to become a consistent live band around Bristol and its surrounding areas for a number of years.

Based on the concept of ‘filler episodes’ that are simply used to pad out a Tv series and string along the viewer until the next one, there’s nothing filler about this song. If it was taken off an album, it wouldn’t be a filler, it would be the spotlight.

You can interpret the unique story into whatever you’re going through in your life. A platonic relationship, or a romantic one, sometimes… they can go stale. Sometimes you just string along each other hoping it will improve.

Musically, the single is coated with a vivid production that, if anything, may be quite a loud master in places, but you can really hear the complexities within the musicality. The pounding drums are gritty, the ’80s-inspired guitar lines are doused with ethereal tones, and the gliding bass line cements a groundbreaking foundation.

Frontman Ben Ayres vocals are the missing piece to this stunning soundscape. Every instrument and every band member complements the rest. There’s no butterjunk member without the other, they are really a band unit. Those units are hard to come around these days.

Get these guys on a top bill at a festival this summer, they’d have the audience in the palm of their hands and you heard it here first.
