Six months on from the release of their third single ‘Eyes’, By The Waves have returned with ‘For The Lovers’. A track that represents the fortune of having a loving family, the fourpiece from Manchester have smashed it once again. Following on their recent BBC Introducing support, By The Waves had to come up with something special to keep them in the spotlight and they did just that. Perfectly capturing the emotions of being reunited with those that you love, ‘For The Lovers’ shows just how talented these four lads are.
With a theatrical intro that wouldn’t feel out of place on Pulp’s ‘His N Hers’, the guitar is accompanied by dark-sounding harmonies that tee up the introduction of the drums flawlessly. When the vocals of Ben Thomas are introduced, the vibe of the song is encapsulated marvellously and you can’t help but make the comparison to the work of The Smiths. A distinguishable guitar sound and powerful vocals that Morrissey and Marr would be proud of, By The Waves are certainly a group to keep an eye on.
Lyrically beautiful. Sonically beautiful. ‘For The Lovers’ reminds us that no matter where you are from or who you are, we all crave to spend time with the people we love, especially our mothers and our lovers. This is arguably By The Waves’ best release to date, a meaningful number that we can all associate with someone, for it’s in our nature to love.
Amazingly, this is By The Waves’ fourth release in their debut year. Having already played an array of local gigs as well as a Live Lounge show at BBC Merseyside, these guys can only get better from here. To achieve so much in only twelve months is incredible work and the Manchester outfit will undoubtedly have an amazing 2025. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open, big things will happen.
