WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM CALEB DE CASPER

Austin-based performer and LGBTQ+ activist Caleb De Casper is back with a bang with “Sik Culture”. Known for starting his career with horror cabaret and glam rock, his latest release, “Sik Culture”, marks a sharp turn as he explores disco and darkwave vibes in the song.

After relocating from North Carolina to the more culturally accepting Austin, Texas, De Casper’s career began to take off where he slowly gained recognition as a queer artist. Since then, he has been praised for his shows where he wears avant-garde gowns, vivid glam-on-acid makeup, and the ever-present stiletto heels, confidently declaring that masculinity comes in many different forms. Beyond music, De Casper has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQIA rights, earning recognition from the City of Austin.

Now, “Sik Culture” represents the first step into new but equally glamorous territory for De Casper. The track combines high-energy disco beats with darkwave elements, featuring passionate string arrangements, powerful vocals, and a driving rhythm. Produced by Ribongia (Haiku Hands), mixed by Billy Hickey (Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey), and mastered by Max Lorenzen, “Sik Culture” benefits from top-tier production talent.

Lyrically, “Sik Culture” takes a hard look at the superficiality of the digital age. Indeed, lines like “You live inside the computer, this is today’s disease / It’s the modern way of life, they don’t know how to feel,” offer a critique of our humanity. The pessimistic lyrics about today’s society contrast with the upbeat and catchy melody. The way he repeats “sik culture” feels like a mantra and I guarantee you, it will stay in your head long after the song ends.

The disco-led chorus is all about infectious energy, making “Sik Culture” a track that invites listeners to dance while contemplating its deeper message. I especially love the disco hook with the bassline that follows us throughout the rest of the song.

Overall, “Sik Culture” is a great listen for those who like good music with a message.
