‘Lie With Me’ – the latest track from Sheffield singer-songwriter Charlotte Branson is another incredibly candid offering. Following on from previous singles this year ‘Burning Desire’ and ‘Enemy’ – this third release for 2021 combines a playful melody, personal writing and sweet yet soulful vocals.
The song sees Branson once again utilising both her musical flare and lyricism to explore the real-life experiences of love, lust and heartbreak. This particular tune revolves around falling in love with someone already in a relationship. The temptation and persuasion from that person to pursue the affair – and the sneaking around, secrecy and conflicting emotions which occur as a result. “Lost in your words, blinded by lies… You say I won’t stay on the side”
Showcasing strong vocals from the artist, the catchy chorus is led by the words of her lover “Lie with me, my girl” – a request both physical and mental in meaning. There’s a great addition of layered backing vocals which echo the words back to you.
Produced by Jared Harding at Electric Bear Studios – the upbeat number features flourishing string effects, finger clicks and peppy percussion laced throughout. There’s a certain sassy edge to this track and it’s sound -reminiscent of Amy Winehouse in places.
‘Lie With Me’ is another impressive release from Charlotte Branson whose relatable themes and soulful twist on pop are really quite irresistible.
