Cormac Thompson

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM CORMAC THOMPSON – DEFENCELESS

Cormac Thompson, from Darwen, has just released his first original song Defenceless. After years of releasing nothing but cover songs, Cormac has stepped up his game.

With over 152K followrs on social media, Cormac has gained listeners from all over the globe who are all enthralled by his powerful voice. His covers have had over 5.2 million streams on streaming platforms and his song has obtained a lot of love from his followers on Facebook with comments such as ‘Can’t stop humming this’ and ‘Very true lyrics, I can definitely relate!’. It appears that this won’t be the only original song Cormac releases.

The song is all about Cormac battling with feeling alone, even though he has people around him. How he is in two minds of feeling as if he shouldn’t be here, but wants to stay. With lyrics such as ‘stay or go, should I really be here? Am I faking or just mistaken?’, Cormac has captured the feelings of how depression can truly make you feel beautifully. It must be refreshing to know others feel the same way as him.

The instrumental is slow and somewhat sad, which matches the energy of the song. It never becomes uplifted which could be symbolic to how Cormac feels inside. I think he has wrote this song from the heart and has tried to encapsulate his feelings with not only the lyrics but also the instrumental. There’s an acoustic guitar which kicks the song off with Cormac’s vocals. It later changes to an electric guitar towards the end of the song, but it is very faint.

Cormac has such a great voice and can write amazing songs, I think he should work on an EP next and put his emotions down on paper and create more tracks that people can relate to! This young man has most definitely secured his place in the music industry and has a bright future ahead. Well done, Cormac!
