CRAYOLA LECTERN - DISASTERNOON

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM CRAYOLA LECTERN – DISASTERNOON

Brighton’s own Crayola Lectern returns with Disasternoon. A sprawling, heartfelt piece that feels more like a cinematic trip than a modern single. It’s not trying to be trendy nor catchy. It just is what it is. And honestly? That’s what makes it special.

The opening is intriguing. Traditional yet abstract. You can tell from the off there’s a solid composer behind this. It takes its time, and at first, you wonder where it’s going. The vocal delivery is not the strongest part. There are moments where the melodies could land harder, and the second verse in particular doesn’t quite stick. But wait it out…

While it may lose some objectively, once you get to the start of the instrumental it all shifts. In fact this is where the magic kicks in. Dreamlike strings, lush guitar textures, and these huge, swelling drums. It turns into something you just want to get lost in. It’s less of a song, more of a space to be in.

Although a more confident vocal could take it up a notch at the start. But the whole thing is like a journey through time and I didn’t want it to end. A wonderful piece of music that by the end you want to hear again. If you’ve got a spare five minutes and a decent pair of headphones, let this one breathe. Just imagine that live! Catch them at upcoming dates this Summer and Autumn in Brighton, London, and Weston-Super-Mare
